A North Carolina ninth grader has tragically drowned in a lake across from his high school.
The male student, whose name has not been released, had gone swimming in the private lake with a male and female student on Friday afternoon.
Authorities said the students had walked across the street from Page High School and gone swimming in their clothing.
They were jumping off the docks when one of the male students suddenly disappeared underwater.

Twenty firefighters arrived at the scene around 12.44pm to try and find the student after he vanished underwater
Greensboro Fire Assistant Chief Dwayne Church said the male student could not swim well.
The female student and second male student attempted to rescue him but could not, according to the Greensboro News & Record.
Twenty firefighters arrived at the scene around 12.44pm to try and find the student. The dive team arrived at 2.04pm and found the student within five minutes.
He was rushed to Moses Cone Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Church said the boy's family had been at the lake while rescuers tried to locate him.

Page High School students said they were told to stay in their classrooms during the rescue efforts on Friday afternoon.
Swimming and boating are prohibited at the lake, which is private property.
Church said there are no trespassing signs all around the lake and that there was no supervision when the three students were swimming.
'I want to remind all residents of the Triad that if there is a private lake, stay away from it,' he said.

'We have a lot of these emergencies because there's no supervision and no one is supposed to be at the lake.'
Page High School principal Erik Naglee said the students' death had left the community 'heavy with grief'.

The death comes just two months after Page High School senior Sincere Davis was killed in a shooting. He was a senior and captain of the school's football team.
